Building measures: restoration of an 80 sqm flat located inside a historic 17th century building, used as a holiday home in downtown Sanremo
Working period: 2015
Client: private
Overview
The project in a nutshell: I faced this restoration with great respect for the existing structure and taking care to preserve all the elements that could be preserved: the floors, the vaults, the interior doors, the windows and the kitchen sink made of Carrara marble “in Genoese style”.
The interior
Thanks to the enhancement of strong elements and the reuse of recycled materials, I was able to design a very particular interior, with great attention to the reduction of renovation costs.
For the division of space, I tried to stick to the original divisions, adapting them to the needs of a holiday home. I made the most of all the rooms, including the original hallways and stairwells. In this way, I was able to create a comfortable flat with a nice living room, a kitchen-diner and two large bedrooms, both with their own bathroom.
The bathrooms
In agreement with the clients, I looked for a few salvaged pieces such as the fittings of the larger bathroom and the cast iron radiators, which are also used in the rest of the house. For the smaller bathroom, on the other hand, I used elements with a simple and modern design.
The light
For the interior lighting, I preferred to use a modern language, choosing wall-mounted and track-mounted spotlights to indirectly illuminate the spaces, enhancing the vaulted ceilings and limiting the work on the stone walls, also with a view to reducing costs.
